Wisdom Teeth Removal & Oral Surgery Minutes From Claremont, CA

- Walking distance matters less than you'd think. It's a short drive or rideshare from any of the campuses, and you shouldn't be walking home after sedation anyway.

Sedation
Nitrous oxide, IV sedation, and general anesthesia are all administered in-office. A single erupted tooth might need only local anesthetic. Four impacted teeth almost always means IV sedation. If you're anxious, you can have sedation even for a procedure that wouldn't strictly need it. Dr. Moghadam recommends the level that fits the case and won't push the heaviest option.
Extractions That Aren't Wisdom Teeth
Teeth that can't be predictably restored, teeth that have failed a root canal, and teeth that need to come out to make room for orthodontic treatment are all handled here, with a firm quote at the consultation. If the case turns out to need an implant or bone graft afterward, that stays with Dr. Moghadam rather than being referred out again.

I'm a student at the Claremont Colleges. Can I book without my parents?
Yes, if you're 18 or older. You'll need someone to drive you home after sedation — a friend or roommate is fine. If you'd like a parent to join by phone during the consultation, we can do that.
Will my insurance from another state work?

Can I smoke or vape after wisdom teeth removal?
Not for at least 72 hours, and longer is better. Suction and smoke both raise the risk of dry socket, the most common painful complication. That includes vaping and cannabis. If stopping completely isn't realistic, tell us at the consultation and we'll go over what lowers the risk.

What happens if you don't remove impacted wisdom teeth?
Many cause no trouble for years. Others lead to repeated gum infections, decay on the molar in front, and, less often, cysts that damage the jawbone. Removal is easier and healing faster at 18 than at 40, when roots are longer. That is why we evaluate before there is pain.
How long do stitches take to dissolve after wisdom teeth removal?
Most dissolvable stitches loosen and fall out on their own within one to two weeks. Finding one in your mouth is normal. Nothing needs to be removed unless we tell you otherwise at the follow-up.
When can I brush my teeth after wisdom teeth removal?
Brush your other teeth gently the night of surgery, keeping the brush away from the extraction sites. From the next day, rinse gently with warm salt water after meals. For the first few days, don't spit forcefully; let the water fall out of your mouth instead.
