Wisdom Teeth Removal & Oral Surgery for Ontario, CA

Most Ontario families land on this page for one reason: a dentist looked at an X-ray and said "you'll need to see an oral surgeon for that." Then you're handed a referral and left to figure out who, where, how much, and whether your insurance actually covers it.

This page is built to answer those four questions in order. The short version: the surgeon is Dr. Sean Moghadam, board-certified in oral and maxillofacial surgery; the office is in Pomona, a straight run from Ontario on either the 10 or the 60; wisdom teeth are $300 per tooth with a flat $1,200 sedation fee if you're paying out of pocket; and yes, we take IEHP and Medi-Cal Dental.

Step 1: You Were Referred. Now What?

You don't need a new referral from us, and you don't need to have seen a Kids Dental Castle dentist first. If your general dentist in Ontario, Montclair, or anywhere else has already taken X-rays, bring them or have the office send them over — it saves a step. If you don't have recent imaging, we'll take it at the consultation.

Dr. Moghadam looks at the actual position of each tooth, whether it's impacted, whether there's infection or crowding, and gives you a direct answer on whether removal is really needed. A referral is a recommendation to get evaluated, not a guarantee that surgery is the outcome. Some teeth get monitored instead of removed.

Step 2: Who Is Doing the Surgery

Every surgical case here is Dr. Moghadam's — not rotated among associates. He's a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon who graduated with honors from UCLA, then trained through a General Practice Residency at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center, a surgical internship and clinical instructor role at The Ohio State University, and an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery residency at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. His scope covers wisdom teeth (including impacted teeth), surgical and routine extractions, IV sedation and general anesthesia, dental implants, bone grafting, and jaw surgery.

Step 3: What It Costs

For self-pay patients, the numbers are:

  • $300 per wisdom tooth
  • $1,200 flat fee for IV sedation or general anesthesia, regardless of how many teeth are removed in that visit

So four wisdom teeth under IV sedation is $2,400, not a mystery figure revealed after the fact. Other extractions and surgical procedures get a firm quote at the consultation, before anything is scheduled.

Step 4: IEHP, Medi-Cal, and Insurance in Ontario

A lot of Ontario families are on IEHP — it's the largest Medi-Cal plan in San Bernardino County, and we accept it. We also accept Medi-Cal Dental directly and PPO insurance plans. Coverage for extractions and sedation varies by plan, so our front office checks your specific benefits before your appointment, not at checkout.

If you're uninsured or your plan doesn't cover the procedure, the self-pay pricing above is the price — there isn't a separate higher "cash rate."

Paying Over Time

Zero-interest in-house financing is available for oral surgery, the same terms our orthodontic patients get. CareCredit is accepted. Paying in full in cash earns a 5% discount, and that discount stacks with CareCredit.

Sedation for Teens and Anxious Patients

Nitrous oxide, IV sedation, and general anesthesia are all available in-office. For a lot of Chaffey-district teenagers getting all four wisdom teeth out at once, IV sedation is the common choice — they're asleep for it and don't remember the procedure. A single, simple extraction may not need sedation at all. Dr. Moghadam recommends the level based on the procedure and the patient, and will tell you if the sedation you're asking for is more than the case needs.

Ontario Ranch and Families New to the Area

If you've moved into Ontario Ranch or one of the newer neighborhoods in the south end of the city, you may not have a long-standing dental home yet, let alone an oral surgeon. That's fine. Pediatric dentistry, orthodontics, and oral surgery are all in this one office, so a family that starts with a wisdom tooth evaluation for a teenager can bring younger siblings in for cleanings and braces without hunting down two more practices.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I need a referral to see an oral surgeon?

No. A referral from your dentist is helpful, especially with recent X-rays attached, but it isn't required. You can book a free consultation with Dr. Moghadam directly. If you're on Medi-Cal Dental, we'll tell you before the visit whether your plan needs anything else.

  • Do you accept IEHP?

Yes. IEHP, Medi-Cal Dental, and PPO plans are all accepted. We verify your specific coverage for extractions and sedation before your visit.

  • Should wisdom teeth be removed if they don't hurt?

Not always. Pain isn't the test; position is. A wisdom tooth that's impacted, partly erupted, or pressing on the molar in front can cause damage before it causes pain. One that's fully erupted, healthy and easy to clean can often be monitored instead. The panoramic X-ray at the free consultation shows which kind you have.

  • How much does it cost to remove all four wisdom teeth for uninsured patients?

$300 per tooth, plus a flat $1,200 for IV sedation or general anesthesia: $2,400 for all four under sedation, paying cash. The consultation and X-rays are free, and we confirm what your insurance covers before the surgery date.

  • Can my teenager get wisdom teeth out before leaving for college?

That's one of the most common timing requests we get. Summer after senior year is a typical window since recovery is usually a few days. Book the consultation in spring so there's room to schedule the surgery without rushing.

  • How long does wisdom teeth removal take?

The surgery itself usually takes under an hour for all four teeth; deeply impacted teeth can take longer. Plan on about two hours at the office in total, including check-in and time in recovery before you go home.

  • Does wisdom teeth removal hurt?

Not during the procedure. The area is fully numbed, and most patients choose IV sedation, given in our office by Dr. Moghadam, so they sleep through it and remember little. Soreness peaks over the first two to three days afterward and is usually managed with prescribed or over-the-counter pain relief.

  • What can I eat after wisdom teeth removal?

Cool, soft foods for the first day or two: yogurt, applesauce, mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs, and smoothies eaten with a spoon. Avoid straws, crunchy or spicy food, and anything with small seeds. Most patients are back to normal meals in about a week.
